2011 Chevy 1500 5.3 Motor will not shut off when key is off and pulled out.

Asked by Bharris1997 Jan 29, 2019 at 01:51 PM about the 2011 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LT Crew Cab RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

When you turn the key an pull it out of the ignition the Truck still runs until you
open the door. I have replaced the ignition and the ignition control module. The
problem started right after we had a battery replaced.

I have checked the fuses also. I am wondering if the BCM or PCM may have
been damaged by an electrical surge when the battery was installed?

Just for diagnostics, key off and out, check primary voltage for ignition coil and fuel injectors, The primary wire color is pink. Use a test light to check for voltage. If no voltage, the only thing I can think of, is your dieseling? If you have voltage on those circuits with key off and out, pull the powertrain relay see if voltage goes away? The voltage for control and switch side of that relay is hot all the time. The pcm grounds the control side of relay in order to energize. You can check relay, maybe ground circuit shorted to ground. I can't tell you to replace pcm w/o further testing. Maybe some of the others would have better answer.

Clean the backside of the fuse/relay block under the hood. You must take it apart and clean the circuit board. Had the same problem today and found that to be the problem after a lot of research. Cleaned it and problem solved.

GuruPCFC1 can you take a 2011 fuse block apart further than popping it off the connectors?

No just split the plastic case and clean the circuit board and put it back together. I cleaned mine with iso alcohol and sprayed it clean with electrical cleaner. Problem solved.

I just had the same issue with my daughters 2010 Silverado 1500 4x4. It was the fuse block that shorted out. Once we replaced it, works like new.
