BMW 528i 1997 Coolant

5

Asked by FiveStar66 Jun 16, 2018 at 02:13 AM about the 1997 BMW 5 Series 528i Sedan RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The car is overheating.

I suspect it may be a mechanical issue - fan belt or water pump - as I heard
noise initially. It is purring now but overheats. I want to get it to a mechanic but
do not wish to drive it...so perhaps towing.

As an aside I checked the coolant - looks as if a top up may not go astray but I
am not sure on this model how high/much I should fill reservoir as I can't see
any obvious markings on the tank (and no floater). Any help/advice much
appreciated!

Thank you, Tom. I added coolant to that mark assuming the line was the indicator but wasn't sure...so I appreciate your confirmation! Not sure yet if it is safe to drive - probably not as it didn't require much coolant.
