Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Earlier Robert suggested a front end inspection for the play in my steering.  The car
sways left/right particularly on less than perfect highway conditions.  I want to repair any
needed parts but would like to buy parts and have shop install so the fix would be a little
less costly.  Anybody know of shops that will let a guy do this?

Other than possible liability concerns, I don't know why a reputable repair shop wouldn't allow you to purchase the parts and just charge you the labor to install. They may want to know where you got the parts from and want proof (and possibly a photocopy of the invoice wherever you got them from). Just in case there is some sort of mechanical failure related to the parts you purchased...kind of a CYA thing to cover their own butts, if you get what I'm saying.
