2006 Cadillac CTS Check Engine LIght

Asked by Badface2018 May 31, 2018 at 11:26 AM about the 2006 Cadillac CTS 3.6L RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

A few months ago, I noticed the check engine light on in my sons CTS.  Took
it to Auto Zone so they could lug in and read the code.  They said it was
catalytic converter.  I put off doing anything about it. A couple of weeks ago it
wouldn't start.  Took it to Auto Zone to check the battery.  They said battery
was good also the alternator.  One week later wouldn't start.  Took it back
and this time the tester said bad battery.  Bought new battery and they
installed it.  Now the check engine light is off.  IS that weird? Seems so to
me.  He is about to go off to college in a couple of months so it worries me a
little.  Anyone familiar with this problem?

When the battery is changed the check engine light will go off since you "cleared" the code by doing that. If the problem is still there, the check engine light will come back on eventually. If the light is off still, go back to auto zone and have them read it again. It might say " code pending", then you will know its about ready to light up again. Good luck.

changing the battery will clear any lights until it reappears again. this is coming from an actual mechanic right through this message however when a check engine light comes one it can be anywhere from just a sensor needing repair or the actual part that the sensor is connected to, with that being said always seek more than just one place. ive noticed auto zone scan tools will read a small bit, advance auto scan tools read more as for mine will also read differently than theirs so always go through more than one auto store/shop.
