anti skid (traction control) has no bearing with transmission or fuel economy- it will engage your abs system to help you maintain control if your car starts to skid, so leave it on all the time- it won't affect fuel economy. The reason there is a shutoff button is because if you get stuck, you need to be able to turn it off. this is because the system would fight you if you tried to rock the car out- instead, you shut it off, rock the car out, and then turn it back on. I hope this helps. anti-skid helps you keep control of the car without any input from you other than you steering where you want to go.
