CHANGE OIL SOON interval changed

Asked by Lzstud Aug 18, 2014 at 04:22 PM about the 2010 Mercury Grand Marquis LS

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

CHANGE OIL SOON LIGHT has been at 6 month interval for 2 years, but now just came
on after 3 months since my last change, which I do myself.  I drive 5000mi a year.  The
dipstick is to the full mark, and the oil is still transparent.  Is there an oil pressure function,
or has the OBD setting changed?  The instrument panel oil light does not indicate
trouble.

Your light comes on because you drive so much, it doesn't "go down" it just gets dirty. You want to keep your engine running clean! Your welcome!

The do it for me oil changers would like you to change oil every 3000 miles so they can sell more oil. I have also had one (Valvoline Fast Lube) sell 100% synthetic to my wife who unknowingly bought their pitch. It is perfectly fine if you change every 5,000-6,000 miles but do change the oil filter each time. Also use a leading brand name and viscosity appropriate for your car and driving conditions.

If the oil is light colored and transparent, not dark and only translucent, it certainly doesn't sound like it is dirty! I wonder....
