Should I get a wrangler?

Asked by Ksmith17 Aug 16, 2015 at 10:06 AM about the 2009 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 4WD

Question type: General

I have been looking to get an
upgraded car for my next one and
am thinking of going with a Jeep
Wrangler. I currently have a 95 VW
Jetta and am looking for a fun car
that will last about 7 years till I get a
more practical one. I am a senior in
college and want something more
fun than the hand-me-down VW my
brother gave me. Should I invest?

The 2009 Jeep Wrangler is not a good choice at all according to Consumer Reports. It is listed as "Worse Than Average" overall and was reported to have Major Engine, Drive System, Fuel System, Electrical System issues. This is not the vehicle to get for a graduating college senior who wants a car to last well into his 1st job and beyond. You'll thank me later for this advice :)

I bought a Jeep Wrangler when I graduated from college and it's the best decision I ever made. I absolutely love it. The fuel economy is terrible, especially after lifting it and adding 35" tires. Also, the ride is pretty rough, it's not very fast, and doesn't handle well on the road, but it's the most fun vehicle I have ever driven. It's a blast to drive off-road too. Wranglers are cheap to insure and they hold their value extremely well. Also, there are thousands of aftermarket parts for them, so you can customize it how you like. When you buy a Jeep, prepare to make friends with total strangers

Jeeps have more than their fair share of problems, but they are fun. Keep in mind, if you buy one, that you will likely spend more on repairs than other vehicles.
