big uncomfortable handling difference between my old 2000 solara and new 2009 camry hyrid

Asked by alli Apr 05, 2008 at 02:32 PM about the 2009 Toyota Camry Hybrid FWD

Question type: General

I have had my 09 camry hybrid 2 weeks and 1000 miles -I do alot of freeway commute driving. I have not yet been able to get used to the 'loose' feel of the camry's handling, ESPECIALLY during lane changes. It feels like I am not in control of the car. This is compared to my 2000 solara which even w/ 110,000 miles had firm, smooth, handling.
I realize that a 4-dr. sedan is not a coupe, but why does it feel like there is so much 'play' in the steering?
Help me get in charge of my camry--I love the mpg!

electric steering, I do believe is you issue. when you took the car for a test drive, did you mention that then? did you test drive a non-hybrid 09 camry? Alot of cars are going to electric steering, I am not sure if they can "dial" it down for you, but might be worth the trip to the dealer.
