Mitsubishi Outlander 2008 P0420

Asked by tahmidahmed Nov 17, 2014 at 08:16 PM about the 2008 Mitsubishi Outlander ES

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

i have a 2008 mitsubishi outlander. the car has check engine lights and the only code that
shows up is P0420 catalyst below threshold. that is the only code...so i replaced my cars
catalytic converter with a brand new aftermarket catalytic converter. 60 miles after running
the car the check engine light comes back on with the same code. tried resetting the car
computer but it still comes back on after 60 miles every time...the computer doesn't report
any oxygen sensor failure

I know you don't have codes for it, but test the downstream (rear) o2 sensor and all the wiring associated with it. you could also have a damaged exhaust somewhere. cracks in the exhaust can do weird things.

I have an '08' Lancer (ES) 2.0 MIVEC. There is a TSB about re- flashing the ECM for this P0420 BS. Dealer said my car was not eligible for the recall; paid the weenies $ 130 to re-flash it. have not seen the CEL since.
