Question type: Car Selling & Trading In

Question: I have been offered a RX400h by a friend that wants to sell it, it's 10 years old with just 35.000 miles but she informs me that she has had 6 battery replacements the reason being that the car would not start in the morning because the battery would lose its charge overnight. The dealer has provided her a way to connect to charge the battery overnight. The car is garaged and so she has a power outlet to do this, my problem if I by this car I don't have access to a power outlet as I live in an apartment building. Has this battery issue been resolved?

No, probably not, first make sure you have a good battery now, next check for a drain, usually like a lite staying on that you can't see like trunk, hood, glove box, console I think you get the idea, run the car for a while to bring battery up then turn off wait an hour or so then carefully feel the bulbs in those locations if the bulb is staying on it will be hot enough to burn you also check cig lighter. If you don't find it that way you may have to pull fuses one by one until you find the circuit causing the drain keep in mind the electronics draw a small amout of current all the time that's why you need a strong battery not a cheap one did this help?

I would not buy it unless it is really cheap. The starting battery might be $150 but the hybrid battery is thousands. Ask your friend if the dealer ever tried to find the battery drain.
