Humming/buzzing noise from under hood with engine off.

Asked by HISGTO Jan 11, 2020 at 09:12 PM about the 2008 Toyota RAV4 Base

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have 2008 Toyota Rav4, 4 Cyl, with
100,000 miles. For the past couple
months, I have experienced issues with
a humming/buzzing noise (similar to
the sound of the old GM seatbelt
signal, but at a much lower volume)
coming from the engine (don’t know
exactly where), but the engine is OFF,
with NO key in the ignition. The
problem is intermittent which makes
diagnosing difficult. Sometimes the
check engine and oil pressure lights
are on BEFORE putting the key in the
ignition. Other times, once I put the key
in the ignition, then all of the noted
lights illuminate. This issue causes the
battery to drain to the point of not
being able to start the car.

Just wondering if you were ever able to diagnose the problem. We just bought my father-in-law’s 2007 RAV4 and it’s doing the same exact thing.

Me too. Light beeping sound when I turned off the car. My battery may drain if I do not find a way to turn it off.

I have a 2008 Rav4 and my car just stated to make a weird humming noise as well. It starts immediately after turning it on. I can't figure out what it is either..

Same happened to my 2007, it killed the new battery. I found that if I pulled the efi msin fuse out, the noise stops. So I think its the fp relay corrupts. However Ive been looking for the relay location but no luck. Dobt kno where. So for now I have to pull the fuse everytime I park to save the battery then plug in back to start the car.
