Have the battery charged and tested. If it is original, probably time to replace it.

If you just hear a click when you turn the key it's not your battery if you hear shuttering then possible but your entry lamps would give you a good indication about your batteries health. The main cause of engines not turning over in Ford/Lincoln cars is your physical key, if it's ruffed up, bent, or your ignition lock is worn out (key gets wobbly when you adjust it R/L or U/D) the cars anti-theft system is not able to detect or correctly read your registered key-fob magnet so the car activates kill-mode hence you only hear a click and your error message would probably read "check your charging system" if the key matches the notches but your key is not syncing with the anti-theft you wont hear an alarm. Ford decided to do an oxymoron anti=theft system where only the owner can engage the kill-switch. -SOLUTION- place your key in the ignition and make sure the magnet aspect engages (if your car has easy exit seats your seat should move up to your allocated memory position) then get your key in the ACC position if I remember correctly 2 clicks from key insert and let it stay idle in that position for about 1 minute then try and turn the car over. AVOID the urge to go bonkers on your ignition it will only make it worse, if that fails you can confuse your ECU by rolling your windows up/down while simultaneously turning the car over (Ford developed a very sophisticated and intelligent system) development team must of had a deadline on Thursday and they sure where thirsty!

The negative clamping post will have white powder on it. That is because the new battery isn't getting recharged. Take a 8mm wrench and tighten the negative wire clamp to the battery, evidently it is vibrating loose.

2017 Lincoln MKX. Drove car yesterday, battery OK, went to start this morning, lights appeared good, on screen message. Ignition shut down to save battery. What or how do I reset the ignition system? Jumped with power cable and it started, was driven about 10 minutes. Still would not turn engine over to start. Headlamps looked good. Please, need help.

Maybe your battery cable terminals are not tight enough. They might be snug, for light to appear on dash. But not tight enough for ignition. Get a wrench, and tighten positive and negative clamps another turn.

Hi guys, I think the MKZ and Ford Edge they have the same ignition switch sylinder and house lock, all made from plastic (bad material). My Ford Edge does not start when temperatures above 80 (winter car) every thing work in the car but the starter never click. I changed the ignition first but I still have the same issue, then I changed the sylinder but also I have the same issue. Today I did different thing I I mprove the connection between the ignition and the sylinder by make the plastic shift that connect them longer. Tomorrow when the tepreture will be 90, I will see what will happen.
