Over heating is usually cause by low coolant in the canister and/or the radiator. A stuck shut thermostat. And check to see if the radiator fans come on when engine is hot. But clamping off the heater hose won't help. You only do that when the heater is leaking. And stopping the coolant flow through the heater may make it worse.
