i have a 2008 grand prix v6. when i start the car it idles up normal then the rpms immediately drop down low and lugs for a second or two and picks back up and idles fine. there are no other issues.

Its does sound like your MAF by what you are describing. You may want to clean the throttle boby with a good cleaner like CRC first...

if that doesn't work you might look at the iac

Stick with your original plan. Find the problem, then fix it. That will save you money by not randomly buying parts and hoping the problem goes away. have the trouble codes read on your car. There will be information stored in your car's computer which will tell you what is wrong.

you can clean the iac and intake passage reset the iac also no code for iac

ive got an issue with my car. i have a 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP. on Thursday I preformed an engine degrease and sense then my fans won't run, my car uses more gas then it should (and by that i mean when i tap my gas peddel i go up to 3000 RPM and slowly drop back down), and my engine temperature gauge only goes up. it used to bounce around Ive narrowed that last one down to the Thermostats. despite whats going on if i unplug my engine temperature sensor it the fans and the gas work normal again.
