Dodge ram 1500 4.7 clunk

Asked by GuruWBKWJ Apr 30, 2018 at 09:56 PM about the 2007 Dodge RAM 1500 SLT 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have an 07 Ram 4x4 with the 4.7 ... About
111,764 miles. I noticed a clunk when slowing
down coming off the highway. 2 to 1 downshift
clunk. After playing with it a bit I no longer think it's
a transmission issue. I can duplicate this noise just
by power braking a bit . when I let off the gas and it
settles back down I get this clunk. Lots of play and
movement from engine/trans/tcase when power
braking .... Seems the rear drive shaft is binding
from this excessive flex???? Any help or advice
would be appreciated.

When I power brake it the whole engine trans and tcase moves a bunch front to back .... How much play is normal? No after market manufacture makes my motor mounts which makes me think they don't really fail..... The rear drive shaft going into the tcase seems to be the source of the squeek / clunk when this flex is happening ....

The rear drive shaft should be going into the transmission, the front will come out of the t-case to the front diff.sounds like you have it narrowed and it sill sounds like a bad u-joint.
