Does this model has an engine check indicator on dash board?

I am going to buy a a used 2001 santa fe 4WD full option SUV. When turn on I can't see the engine check light. Current user says that this particular model does not come with a check-engine light. Is it true?

Yes it does have a check engine light. It is required by state law. On the Santa fe it's on the bottom left on the dash. It is a outline of a engine.

if it doesn't light up for a few seconds when the key is first turned on then the bulb is bad or has been removed.

Turning the key to the on posostion without cranking the engine will cause all the lights on the dashbard to light up..it's a bulb check
