Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Can I replace engine in a 2003 Outback 2.5 EJ253HPBHE with a ej254dxdbe

The EJ253 is SOHC. The EJ254 is a DOHC engine so I foresee problems as this is not a "bolt in" swap if that is what you are looking for. What country are you in? I don't think the EJ254 is a US spec engine.

That might be legal where you are but be warned you may have a hard time getting parts for the engine. In the states there is no support for grey market engines and they are not legal to use either. Good luck!
