Maibe because you dimmed the dash board light. You can turn them on and off from there other wise there might be a fault

I have a 2010 explorer and the dash lights and stock radio lights are dim . The speed, tack, fuel, oil and temp are dim when I turn on the head lights , but at night the are bright and readable. I do not have a day light running sensor by the rear view mirror only a sun load sensor on the dash.
