Really depends on your budget and how much you like the car. If it is in immaculate condition and there's nothing wrong with the engine, then, that would be your least expensive option. If you don't repair it, it won't be worth very much on resale.

How well has your Explorer been maintained? My family has 4 dating from 1996 to 2007 and are well maintained and look great. A new one will cost over 30G's. That's a lot more than the highest cost of a tranny repair.

OJ- I agree, but, a lot depends on whether the interior and exterior are really good. Plus, how strong is the engine? Finally, do you really want to keep the car for another 50,000 miles. At 180,000, it's a dice roll.
