Want to get mustang

Asked by Nicholas Mar 18, 2017 at 03:23 PM about the 1970 Ford Mustang Boss 429 Fastback RWD

Question type: Shopping & Pricing

Hi I'm 14 and live in Texas. I want to get a
1970 mustang boss and put in an engine,
transmission, air filter, everything from a
newer model into it. How much would this
cost and how should I proceed?
P.S. I just started saving up and have $50
for working for my grandpa. I know that
would buy me maybe a windshield wiper
but yeah. That's where I am so far.
Suggestions?

If you buy a 1970 Boss Mustang and rip out the engine you will ruin the car and devalue it by at least 50% or more. If you want a new Mustang, buy a new mustang.

A 1970 Boss Mustang could cost well over $70,000. Even a junker would be 20k or more.

Check out the Mustangs on Hemming's Motor News. They are way to cool to ruin by putting a 4.6 in them.

I was only suggesting putting those in an empty chassis I might find. If I found the complete car for a good price I would never replace the drive train and engine without it being necessary.

Agreed, the Boss 302 motor is half the value of the car. If you want to do something like that get a non Boss car and upgrade it into your own kind of Boss. Cost? Depends on what you get for parts and who does the work. You could drop $15-$20K in the body work depending on shape of the 69-70 body, then there is the drive train and suspension. Cool cars for sure, maybe my favorite Mustang body style. But the newer Mustangs are superior handling cars. You can get that handling on an old Mustang but that is going to be a costly project. You could easily drop the cost of a new Mustang GT into this project. I just ordered a 2017 GT Mustang with the performance package suspension. Going to cost me about $39K. And it will be a better handling and faster car than a 70 Boss 302. I've been doing a 68 Shelby GT350. I am NOT making it into a Boss like car. Just upgrading it. I have close to $50k in this car and I still need to upgrade the brakes.
