HELP!!!! 1. Is it better to take my original engine out of my car; resurface and rebuild or start over and buy a 302 engine...... 2. Can I use my 289 parts on the new 302?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 1968 ford Mustang 289 engine
bore out to a 302 with transmission that is
trashed. My dad passed it on to me after 20
yrs of him flooring the hell out of it.  I Want
A Car With power but not have to change a
whole lot to the car where I have to buy a
bunch of different little parts just for the
swap. (i want to keep the c4 tranny but
change out the 289 to a 302 )

If it is rebuild-able I would rebuild it. Do not bore it out any more than .030 or you may have overheating issues. The 289 is a thin wall casting so a large over bore will not work.
