How do I re-mount the compass sensor on a 2008 Ford Escape? It came loose somehow.

The electronic sensor (compass) is hanging loose by the wiring harness
behind the mirror. There are no pictures in the book to show how it might be
mounted and the book says the unit is 'behind' the mirror. Does the unit
somehow attach to the back of the mirror or does it attach to the mounting
bracket fastened to the windshield? It seems logical that it would be the fixed
position rather than the adjustable mirror. I can get it on the fixed bracket but
it doesn't seem secure and the compass does not read correctly. If this is the
right location I suppose it may now need calibration. However it was working
well until I knocked it loose with a sun screen I placed in the window. Seems
odd it would calibration.

I have looked at a few other Ford Escapes... same year as mine... but they have a different type of compass. After stumbling around trying different things, I determined the unit clips over the goose neck between the windshield and the mirror... the ball joint area. While it does clip on there, it really isn't too secure and can be knocked off quite easily when cleaning the glass or hitting it with a sunshade. I believe the latter is how it was knocked off in the first place. I hope this may help someone else experiencing the same problem.
