Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hello, So I have a 2007 Kia Spectra with 145,500
miles on it and my check engine light will go on
and then off a few times a month. I went to several
places and did a test for the check engine light and
it came up with 6 codes.

P0700 = Transmission Control System
Malfunction.

P0743 = Torque converter clutch circuit electrical.

P0750 = Shift Solenoid A

P0755 = Shift Solenoid B

P0760 = Shift Solenoid C

P0765 = Shift Solenoid D

The check engine light off again, but the codes
above are the only codes that will come up.
Thanks.

Kia said I need a new tranny, but when I took it to a tranny shop they said its electoral. The tranny will downshift once or twice a week. When this happen the engine light will come on. The car will accelerate slowly and would not shift. I will turn the car off and 2 mins later I will turn it on and it will drive normal.

Okay cool, so do you that kia is correct that I need a new tranny or do you think the tranny shops that are recommending me to a auto election shop is correct.

When I take it to a transmission shop they don't recommend me getting a tranny, they keep telling me to find a electric auto shop.

06 Kia Spectra @ 180K miles. Now seen by 4 shops in the past 2.5 weeks and currently in fail safe mode. I do not recommend Kia Service unless you just want to waste time and money. I already knew which codes were present after visiting a transmission shop and a general auto repair shop. Codes that have appeared, but not all at the same time: P0700, P0743, P0750, P0755, P0760, P0765, P0748 and P0713. After my car was seen by Kia Service, I spoke to 2 Service Managers at different locations and found out they are not authorized to do any extensive diagnostic work on transmissions. In short, if any part of the internal components fail their basic 1-hr test, they automatically diagnose 'Bad Tranny'. They DID NOT determine what is failing. I was simply told 'internal solenoid codes are present'. Sigh... I asked which ones specifically were bad since my paperwork wasn't helpful and was told that if all solenoid codes appeared, it must be all of them. Wow...what BS!! Also stated in their short scripted recommendation, 'risky to change internal parts on a high mileage transmission. could cause other issues with transmission. transmission replacement 2200.00 + tax'. One Service Manager stated most transmission shops do not have the appropriate diagnostic tools like Kia Service has, but then he said in the same conversation that I could take it to a transmission shop if I wanted a deeper 'internal' diagnostics than what they are authorized to perform. I did explain to both Service Managers, "I visited 2 different transmission shops and was told nothing was wrong with the transmission, which is why I was hoping Kia would be able to assist further". (Crickets...) "Hard to believe both shops skipped an opportunity to sell a transmission if mine is bad." Waiting on the final verdict for my car, as it is now sitting at a transmission shop that wants to do more testing. Would probably be easier to perform an exorcism on the car, but I'm definitely not going to junk it or spend more than necessary. Just skip Kia Service altogether for out of warranty vehicles...

You are wasting time by not getting a rebuilt transmission and call it a day,sorry to tell you but you have major internal failure. Replace it and move on.

Research has shown it’s a common issue with Spectra's between 2002-2008. What happens is, at around 140,000-ish miles the solder on the wiring harness (this usually happens in hotter weather) gets weak and trips the computer to make the transmission go into limp mode as a fail safe.
