Subaru impreza engine swap

Asked by Derek Mar 12, 2016 at 10:45 PM about the 2004 Subaru Impreza WRX STI Turbo AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Looking at buying a 2002 impreza wrx/sti from a
guy . But the engine spun a rod bearing in cylinder
3 . Guy says engine is a ej205.  I have a 1998
forester with a 2.5l in it . Wondering if you can
swap them. New to these types of cars

Thanks

Yes, but you'll have to chase matching ECM, exhaust, and maybe tranny and axles too. Given age i wouldn't bother.

I would try your luck at www.car-part.com and see if anyone local has an engine for you. You might also try an impreza forum and see if there is a short block swap from other 2.0 models but keep your intake/sensors/etc? Just some thoughts.
