I have a 1997 Subaru Impreza L and I was
wondering if a 1998 Subaru Impreza outback
sport engine would be compatible to swap.

1997 is the last of the 2002-2007 era, 2008 starts the 2008-2011 era, so body, exhaust, emissions are all different. Just be careful, as you're hopping generations!
