2005 Saab 9-3

Asked by Heather Aug 24, 2018 at 09:38 AM about the 2005 Saab 9-3 Linear

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Over a month ago my 2005 Saab 9-3 was running
perfectly fine. I killed the car and an hour later went
to crank it again, the SIM said "key not accepted
contact Saab dealer." I saw where, because the
ignition is in the console between the front seats it
catches alot of dirt and debris. So I sprayed it out
with compressed air and then my fob would turn
again and cranked right up. But once it sat
overnight it did the same thing. When I inserted the
fob into the ICM it would not turn from the lock
position and told me "key not accepted again." I
have checked all the fuses, blew the ICM out with
compressed air, took the ICM out and apart and
cleaned it and the wire connections with q-tips,
rubbing alcohol, and electrical wire cleaner spray. I
even bought a second ICM (off eBay so whose to
say it wasn't bad too) but nothing has worked.
HELP!!

Same thing happened to me on my 2005 9-3 linear. A replacement ignition switch fixed it for me. Was a very easy job. Hardest part was getting a replacement switch! No programming necessary.
