No this is why I am changing engine harness and all. I was just wondering if the harness will plug directly into the existing wiring on the fire wall or will I have to replace all the wiring? Thanks for the response.

Just swap the blocks if possible. The heads and up are different. The 98 heads will bolt on fine but the 95 intake won't bolt onto them. Your harness isn't at all compatable. Also the 98 engine requires 55psi fuel pressure and the 95 pump only puts out 13ish. If you ask me the swap isn't worth it. To make it work u need a new pump, the ecu and harness from the 98. The 98 transmission as well (electronics are different). And it's gonna be hit or miss with the instrument panel functioning.

I have the complete 98 truck here that runs perfect less than 100k on it but is totaled. So if I change the ecu and fuel pump would it work? I was going to put the complete drivetrain under the 95 from engine to rear end with ecu and all, but wasnt sure about how the wiring for the drive train would be with the all the inside wiring and components. the dash is the same the only difference is the 98 has pass. side air bag and the 95 only drivers side

Would the harness where it pugs in at the firewall plug into the 95

Idk all you can do is try it. The have the same dash but the 95 is still obd1 where the 98 is obd2. I belive the ecu is under the hood on the 98 and the 95 has it under the dash. Being that way there will be wires going different places between the two. Anything is possible with enough effort.

I dont think it will, the wires are different colors. I'm having the same problem except mine are 1500,not the z71. I have no idea when it comes to the schematics of each of them and how to wire them under the dash

I have a 95 Chevy Silverado Z71 4 by 4 the moter is knocking and I went and bought a 97 Chevy Silverado and it has a Vortec and I was wanting to know if it would work in my 95

Regarding the post above. You will run into OBD1 vs OBD2 issues. You need a 95 or perhaps older engine.

The simple answer is no, it won't work. They are 2 different engines. There are ways to make it work but it's not simple or cost effective by any means. Your best off finding an 88 to 95 motor. The engine in the 96 and later truck is referee to as a vortec 350. What you need is a tbi 350

IF YOU ASK ME IT WOULD BE A MASSIVE HEADACHE, A TOTAL NIGHTMARE REALLY. REASON BEING IS I WAS GOING TO DO THE SAME THING WITH A 97 YUKON AND 95 TAHOE. IN ORDER TO USE MOTOR FROM THE 97 I'D HAVE TO CHANGE COMPLETE WIRING HARNESS INSIDE AND OUT. 97 IS VORTEC ALOT MORE SENSORS AMD COMPLETE DIFFERENT COMPUTER.

Yes it will work ... You will run into problems like andrew said, but having two complete dashes ..you use 98 dash harness with 95 or 98 dash. Whichever is in better shape

I swapped a 97 vortec in my 95 the easiest way is to do a carb conversion and a hei distributor you can go with the fuel injection but but you will have to change all the wiring under the hood and dash dash cluster everything anything that is attached to the wiring will have to be changed except the tranny and transfer case you will have to change the fuel pump and the fuel lines it is time consuming but doable
