HAS ANYONE EVER HAD A STARTER BENDIX NOT RETRACT AND LOCK
AN ENGINE. CHEVY 1500 1996 MODEL.
Yes, that can happen. But usually when the engine starts, it puts a spin on the starter gear causing it to retract. Look/see if the return spring is broken, and lubrication will help too.
Feeling frustrated. Removed starter but engine still locked up. I have two questions that may solve my problem if you can help me with. I can get a 350 (not positive of year close to 98/99) . I need to know if it will mount in my vehicle match my mounts, transmission, exhaust manifold and if anything would I have to change coding in my computer?
I did also forget, I would have to reuse all of my accessory brackets A/C, Alt Compress, etc from the 305. Hopefully they would bolt right up to the 350?
I'm sorry I can not help you much on engine swaps but there's a lot of old Chevy guys that can answer that for you. I myself would play it safe and put in another 305 and be confident the computer will be compatible too. Good Luck.
