My service engine soon light turns on.

I just got my car the other day. It runs great, but every so often, when I turn it
on, the service engine soon light pops up and the brake locks. If I switch
gears it just slowly rolls as if in neutral. It usually stops doing this if I turn the
car on, wait a bit then turn it back on.

If the light is on, there are trouble codes stored in the system, scan of the ODBii codes to find your problem. An auto part store can do this for free.
