Question type: Shopping & Pricing

We are looking at a 2007 Honda CRV for my college age daughter. It has
180,000 miles, no accidents, 4 owners, consistent maintenance at the dealer.
It has some damage arm rest and seats. I am wondering if we should expect
to put a new engine or transmission into it soon. The dealer is asking $7998

That price seems quite high for a 12 year old car with high miles. If it is in good shape and IF your daughter drives limited miles the car could last her for the duration of college but IF she drives a lot you should buy a lower mile car. Check the Blue Book but I think that car is a couple of grand overpriced. Never buy an old used car thinking you will fix it up with a new drive train as the cost to do so would far exceed the value of the car. Much better to buy a lower mile car!
