Replace engine on a 2007 Pontiac Grand Prix (with supercharger) or buy a new used car

Asked by shalee Oct 20, 2019 at 11:34 PM about the 2007 Pontiac Grand Prix GT

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2007 Grand Prix with a supercharger engine. Because of a gas leak
that bled into the engine the engine needs replaced. The car is in great
exterior/interior condition and has not had any mechanical issues besides
the ruined engine.
Should I invest in a "new" engine for it or just scrap the car? And if I did
invest in a new engine what sort of cost would I be looking at? I see a
supercharger engine on sale at what seems to be a reputable online dealer
but what could be the cost of labor to have it installed?

u could look for a engine at a recycling yard for less that might be in better shape. the dealer rebuilt block is a gamble, in my opinion, cozz the block could be too old.

Do you mean the coolant is in the engine? you said gas leak bled into the engine which i have no idea what you mean about that

Go to carpart.com used. and find a engine. if you want to keep the car. buying another engine and having it installed can only be around 1200 total if your supercharger is good. if both are bad. you can just buy another one of those cars for 1800 to 2200 right now. in good condition

Scrap it. It will cost as much or more than the car is worth to get a running engine into it no matter which route you go. For that same money you can simply buy another one that's already running fine and start driving tomorrow instead of weeks from now. There are lots of those cars around, some in very nice well kept condition and they aren't worth a whole lot. When my '03 got wrecked a year ago I had 3 more just like it lined up in a couple of days. A couple of the sellers just wanted them gone and were very flexible on the price. Good luck.
