(Noise in engine and check engine lamp) What could cause this?

Asked by KrisNorway Apr 12, 2015 at 07:45 AM about the 2007 Mazda MAZDA3 s Touring Hatchback

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hi. I've got a Mazda 3 2007 1,6 diesel. The car is making a weird clicking noise. The
noise get's progressively worse but it isn't consistent at any RPM. I've changed the
particle filter and a vent in the exhaust system. The check engine lamp turned off
after the repair, but it started again 25 hours after the repair. The mechanics said that
the sound is just vibrations, but it's weird that the check engine lamp gets turned on
again, and that the sound didn't exist before the problem with the engine started.
Anyone has any ideas what could cause this?

if you are getting a CEL, (check engine light) then the computer has stored a code. have it scanned and post back.

Unsure why you made the repairs that you did, and no one can diagnose your problem based solely on the little information you provided, but you need to determine why you still have an active code. It may well be related to the noise you're hearing. Like the previous person said, get the code scanned to understand what the problem really is. If you've got an active code, plus a noise is in your engine that's getting worse, you'd better find a mechanic who can diagnose the problem. You may end up with a more serious problem then just a noise.
