Where is the ***n car battery? The unhelpful Driver's Manual shows it to be where the air filter is!

Well dandy it's labeled 2007 VW Passat 3.6L.....now the wagon part may be the diff, never seen one up close and personal so maybe it's not right... you probably were looking at the right one and I only posted that 'cause I know your device is not so good at it. So aseeling take dandyoun's word over mine...mine being a shot in the dark
And Shannon may be the one with the solution too...dude you're right enough they do that and it sure does not even look like a battery to me when I enlarge it...I see wires but....never a get up like that

David the way I read his question he might have the one you have a picture of. I looked at the manual also and it shows the one I was taking about. The one in the manual shows the air filter box right in front of where the air filter box is in your picture and shows the battery box sitting right where your air filter box is. Bout to get confused? Lol
Wrong answers, all. There is NO black box between the air filter and fire wall! There is NO box with wires in or out except the fuse box. There is a positive terminal you can expose under a cover near the fire wall but NO NEGATIVE... So how do you jump this idiot car? WHAT IS WRONG WITH THESE GERMANS, My trust has been diminished by many factors.
OK........then tell us....WE THE HELL IS IT.??? As far as jumping the car, Positive on the jump Lug and ground it ANYWere...
Agreed. Positive cable to jump post and negative cable to any metal part. Just avoid putting it on metal fuel lines.
I was looking for this answer recently myself. I had to ask the dealer. There are two engines on the Passat wagon. On both, there are leads under the hood as explained above.... on mine, the 3.6L Passat 4 motion wagon, the battery, a very large one, is found in a compartment in the back luggage area to the left, just before the rear driver wheel well. You have to remove a small panel by turning the black button with a screw driver to the left, then remove the plastic container type thing below it.... the battery is found there... No need to find it, however, if all you want to do is jump it... that can be done under the hood from the terminals provided.. The owner's manual, on my 2007, did not have any information on where the battery was located... on the smaller engine, (4 cylinder) it is under a plastic cowling under the hood to the right of the engine bloc.. Hope this is helpful. See picture.. could not turn in right direction for some reason...

In the rear luggage compartment on the 06 Wagon on drivers side behind read wheel well. As gent stated. Remove upholstered cover w twist of screw like button. This is w/ V6 engine! Could not open rear hatch w/ dead battery so imagine old man crawling on back w seats down to get to battery compartment to attach charger! Now w juice, battery played radio and the key fob was released as soon as car had charger connected! WOW!
Oh, as a PS.... I am an old hand at jumping cars, BUT, I never found the jump terminals under the hood. I did see a black plastic covered one but no indication that it was a jump terminal...plus it could not conduct electricity thru the plastic if it were the Positive Terminal.
This is an auxiliary battery relayed system in the 3.6 under dash relay box Please chk line 6. I believe this electrical system has more relays electrical circuits and bad idea overly complex electrical engineering than God. I also believe the car is equipped w a low ah starter battery and the rest of the 140-180 os the alternator is putting out never sees a battery, capacitors if any consequence and that makes it extremely likely to suck monkey ass is you say toss in a 1200 w 0 and run it off that Duracell in the trunk. Tjr only thing confirmed is that the Germans were on extacy when they engineered this complexity monster of an electrical system.
If you want to to install a 50+ ampre draining amplifier (s) more so if you get to 100+ amperes draw, then I suggest to you : Install an auxiliary AGM OPTIMA battery with 55+ ah as well as the Passat wimp to a solenoid isolator in the factory battery compartment. Alternator charges thru the front post formerly the positive main cable in the starter battery. Connect both batteries ti the isolator leaving the Passat oem to power the starter and draw very little juice from the alternator and leave the optima to power the amp(s) this isolated charge and draw will e overwhelmingly hlgoing to the optima, the two batteries while charging and discharging are discrete. unless they are physically bridged along the isolator physically (for times the wimp Passat oem dies and you need to start the car). as otherwise factory wired. Optima on the opposite pole of the isolator grounded ti the same spot as the Passat battery. The optima will draw current disproportionately greater from the alternator while the weak starter battery kind of puts an effort into running the power reserve for the Passat. powering aftermarket powerful amps (like my Rockford power 1000 bd. In the stock battery setup may be a Passat death wish. you decide to not ti add significant ah from another battery add ah to run a powerful amplifier(s) but from the wimpy OEM starter battery, say your prayers that the low and fluctuating voltage /current from the super electrical system dies nit destroy any 9ne if and endless array of relayed /poweted components all thru the car engine DSG and maybe in yiur head. almost infi VW Electrical engineer overheard as saying : GOT NO BATTERY TO PIWER ANYTHING BUT THE SYSTEM VOLTAGE RELAY AND FUSE BY FUSE. BC I'M STUPID AF AND NEVER CONSIDERED 100 + AMPS DEDICATED FOR MUSIC IN THIS WHIP BC WE ARE RIDICULOUS GERMAN GEEKS "WOULD ACTUALLY POSSIBLY AHHNILILATE THE PASSAT AND RENDER UT A OARTS CAR!
