07 chevy hhr, interference engine
My 07 chevy hhr has a broken timing chain.
Is this motor a zero tolerance/ intolerance engine?
Or can I fix?
Should I just junk it?
Buy a new engine?
first, it's hard to believe that your timing chain broke. It's more likely that the tensioner failed and maybe the chain jumped a tooth: this should be repairable. As for interference, I can't find any information, so ask the mechanic to check.
That's what the mechanic told me and his print out wasn't any more helpful than that. He just gave me a price ok 8k...
You really need a different mechanic. This one appears to be defrauding you.
Maybe, I am also is a small tow with only one shop...
Any reputable mechanic has sources for replacement engines. He could find a replacement with your mileage or less, test it, and install it for $2,500. Of course, your car's likely worth $4,000, so if you can't repair it for under $2,000, you probably should just junk it and go shopping.
