The check engine light has been on since I got the vehicle in February, I got it used from a friend. Just started almost 2 weeks ago doing it very now and then now it's happening more and more

Emily, the most common problem with this is a dirty throttle body. Likely the battery was disconnected for whatever reason which will cause bad idle or stalling. Worth a try since it's about a $8 fix. Disconnect fuses # 10 and #28 under the hood. Then remove your throttle body completely and clean both sides with a toothbrush and rag only, use a sensor safe spray like Seafoam to clean. More than likely, this will solve your problem.
