Sounds like oil leaking into spark plugs because of old gasket. So, oil is under a lot of pressure and it seems the path of least resistance. It goes straight through the old gasket and into the spark plug. When it interferes with spark you get sputter you are getting. I should have changed my valve gasket a lot sooner to avoid this. I had a shop lie to me and tell me that oil on my ignition coil was nothing and the car would run fine. Total lie. It cost me $400 to fix this. Find a shop immediately or have good friend do job at cheaper price. Good luck.
