Convertible Top

Asked by Loving16 Jul 30, 2019 at 03:56 PM about the 2007 Saturn Sky Roadster

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Live in Calif. Use the conv top alot. When closing the top recently, it stopped
about 6" short because something was wrong on the right side. After the sun
was on it for a little while, it must have relaxed enough to straighten our.
Happened again, but this time, there's a big gap above the right window
enough that I can't go thru the car wash. But I'm more concerned about the
top. Is it fixable? (see photos)

Maybe a shop that does tops can help you out. Eventually fabrics can shrink which will result in gaps. The photos make it look like there is physical damage to the frame.

That's what I'm concerned about...the physical damage. Should I take it to a GM/Chevy dealer (Saturn was owned by GM) or a local body shop?

I would find an upholstery shop that works on convertibles. Not too many mechanics work on tops. The GM dealer may work on it or farm it out to a specialist but in any case they will charge you a small fortune.

Mine has done the same thing. I was able to tuck in the parts of the top to make it work satisfactorily. I'm thinking that once I lower the top again I'll have the same thing happen. It appears to me that there's a "pocket" inside the top that is ripped. I think it can be repaired but it's only accessible from the inside - when the top is off the car. I see this post is a few years old and may not be accessible any more but would appreciate any input.
