2006 Jeep Commander starting but not moving

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I purchased a 2006 Jeep commander a few months ago and have unfortunately had
several problems with it already.  The worse would be today.  I got in the car, it started
fine, shifted it into gear, and the car won't move.  The gear shifting on this vehicle can
be felt, but as I shift from park to drive to reverse you feel nothing.  Once I step on the
gas the speed and RPMs jump, but nothing.  I have no clue what happened and I was
driving it fine the day before.

hi does it feel like the cable is hooked up.... does the vehicle roll when in neutral with the engine off shift it to neutral and try roll it its possible the cable broke on you ...//if the trany has been not given you any issues (delay shift, slipping, flaring) I would not think that the fluid level would be the issue with out giving you some of these signs at first ...you can check the fluid..... vehicle has to be warm and idling in neutral with the E/brake on ....//do not over fill it not even a little bit this is not good for an auto trany ...//also if the fluid is overfilled it will be into the gear train and act like a blender airrating the fluid and and making it like foam ...the pump can not pick this up and compress it and make pressure ....//which an auto trany needs to shift and apply the clutches...//both a low and a high level will cause a delay and flare in shifts and also check your transfere case and make sure your in 4 high or 2 high ...// or if its an AWD make sure its not in neutral either

MOPARJOHN~~In neutral the car does nothing. It does not roll or anything. When it was working there would be a "jerk" during gear changes, but I didn't think it was a major issue.

My 2008 commander is having a similar problem I cracked the transfer case ordered a used one from Amazon certified warranty even said to be tested installed it and now I have no gears Reds to about 5000 RPM before it moves I manage to catch first gear after letting it sit for a while but once it warms it goes straight back into third gear rubs all the way up to 5000 before it catches even then it’s not a jerk it’s just a slow catch check fluid levels and speed sensors no clue where to go from here

I'm having this problem now! same as you, I checked all that was said above and no luck! Wish I knew.

The same issue as just happened to me I had someone look at it and they told me that my transmission fluid was overfilled and they need to drain it I really hope that is the issue

My girl friend was driving her 2006 jeep liberty and she heard a load noise sounded like a chain slapping metal and it stoped pulling in all gears and will not roll in neautral either tow truck driver had to drag it up on the. Tow truck with wheels sliding

Hi all! Having the same issue! Anyone find any answers?? Jeep has been driving fine... yesterday I left early morning only letting jeep warm up for a few mins... got about half mile down the road and accidentally bumped it into 3rd gear.... which I have done in the past with no issues... the shift stick bumps over pretty easy on accident.... anyway right after I did this yesterday my jeep would not move sat there shifting it into different gears reverse neutral it will roll but I have to rub it pretty high for it to jump into gear was able to get it back to my house and haven’t messed with it sense I am going to check trans fluid now after reading your comments. Just curious if anyone has had luck finding the issue. Thanks Megan
