I have 98 volvo S70 having issues with car shutting off while driving

Car shut off periodically while driving. When car shut off has odor of gas/metal. Car will restart and may not have any issue with it for a few days then happens. Also having issue with a/c coolant was out got it refilled and a/c went out about 3 days later. Had tune up done and still having issues. Looked at intake valve had old cap got removed wondering if need new valve or something else. tried explainng issues to my mechanic but unable to find issue. Anyone as idea of what need to be done

AC dryer probably rusted through, so it leaks gasses out. Dryer is located on the passenger side of radiator. Assuming your car is left hand driven. No fault codes on shutting down period?
