just got a 99 vw bug with 2.0 engine. I need to replace the water pump, I have serp belt off and the 2 timing belt covers off, if I don't move the cam and crankshaft pulleys in the removal and reinstallation, do I still have to get pulleys lined up and get #1 cylinder to top dead center?

replacing water pump, I have to remove timing belt, but do I have to get #1 cylinder to top
dead center if the pulleys are'nt moved?  serpentine belt and 2 timing belt covers are off,
timing belt is still installed.  Not sure if I have to go all out with timing or not.
