1999 VW Jetta tail light

Recently bought a used 1999 VW Jetta and noticed
a tail light out. I changed the bulb but the light is
still out. Could it be a fuse or possibly a short
somewhere?

If both left and right bulbs are out simultaneously, that would likely be the fuse. Otherwise the problem will be bulb, socket, or wiring.
