Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 2004 ram 2500 with 5.7. When you
start it all seems fine then after a few
seconds later voltage guage drops to
0 And check guage light comes on.
New battery new alternator still does
it. Truck seems to be running just fine
through all this... But still concerning

this problem? Seems to be a common

Just my opinion, I'd use a digital multimeter and double check the volt meter reading? Use meter leads across battery posts, everything off, The generic spec for a full charge is 12.6 volts. If reading is below that, use a charger. make sure battery connections all good, all ends, not just at the battery. Start the vehicle, the second reading across battery posts, engine running, should be higher than the first reading if system is charging. You can also check reading at generator bat terminal, with meter. There are trouble codes listed for generator and charging system, any codes? With engine running, it's the generator that should carry the load.
