Slipping in chevy impala

My chevy impala 2001 had a coolant code of
po128 and i know its a common
coolant/thermostat fix but can this cuase my
transmission to slip.its been slipping every 5 min i
start the car and let it warm it then i start driving
and it just makes a "vroooooooommmm" sound
while im gasing it trying to pick up speed.eventully
it picks up and drives normal but im concerned at
this point for my saftey
