2006 Dodge Dakota engine swap

Asked by GuruK4WHF Nov 29, 2019 at 12:36 PM about the 2006 Dodge Dakota SLT Quad Cab 4WD

Question type: Car Customization

My soon to be ex wife has a 2006 Dakota
with the 4.7 and the tick they're notorious for
has her searching for a no grimlin truck and
giving me the Dakota. With a little over the
dreaded 165, XXX I'd still drive it anywhere
although it gets 10 feet per gallon. I've read
about the 5.3 swapping and the ecm
headache along with the wiring. But what
about old school carb and distributor and
keep it simple? Other than the motor mounts,
would the "sweet 70s" bolt up to the rest of
the drivetrain?

Does the motor still have a cap and rotor is it individual coil packs? My 02 5.9 can be swapped into a carb since it still has a cap an a rotor set up easily and eliminate electronics. Basically doing it now
