What causes gas gauge to jump and why does it kill all power

Truck is running when gas g jumps to passed full
all power and motor die,I atempt to jump it takes a
few twists at ignition before gas g goes back
normal ,truck runs3 mins and same thing happened
now nothing truck won't start
