How many catalytic converters are on a 2006 Ford Taurus?

Asked by GuruQ4Z3 Apr 26, 2017 at 04:24 PM about the 2006 Ford Taurus SE

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

A mechanic told me the codes said that the catalytic converters on my 2006
Ford Taurus SE V-6 3.0 (not the OHV engine) need to be replaced. He said
there are 3 of them and they are $400 each. Are there actually 3 converters
on my car and is he being honest about the cost and the repairs?

There looks like there could be 3 cats on there, and yes, 2 cats up front, and one more in the pipe running out. They are expensive, I see where one could get the front two catalytic converters for $400, but the third cat is like $330, so depending on where they get their parts from this sounds about right. Usually it is the front two cats. that go bad tho.
