Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2005 F-150 Ford pickup that is overheating. I replaced the thermostat
with a factory new one but it still overheats. The large rad. hose that comes
from the thermostat housing to the rad. heats up only half way . Its not hot at
the rad. end. I know the thermostat is installed properly. What could be causing
this? Thank you in advance.

Remove t stat and reinstall hose and run vehicle to see if vehicle still over heats because I have seen some brand new thermostats be bad. If you remove t stat and vehicle still over heats there is a clog in the cooling system. Could be a clogged radiator or a clogged passage in the engines cooling system. Are the fans coming on ?

Thank you for the help. have already did the remove the rad. test so Im thinking it is as you say a clog somewhere in the cooling system. What do you suggest I do now. Thanks again.

First I would suggest a good cooling system flush Prestone Super Flush is good. Also would suggest cleaning the radiator coils or if A.C condenser sets in front of radiator clean those coils so that the radiator can get good air flow. Use a garden hose a nozzle to clean coils of bugs and dirt that may be restricting air flow. If all of that fails radiator may be clogged and needs to be replaced.

Also would not disregard Regrets suggestion about the water pump it only happens on rare occasions but the propeller to the pump may have broken loose and not circulating coolent through the system.
