Not trying to be a downer but why would you want to? That 5.4 is complete disaster of a motor. Ford got sued over that motor for all the defected parts and catastrophic failures I would look for a 5.0 it's 5000 times a better motor. Don't get me wrong I don't know your financial situation but you'd be money ahead to put a 5.0 in or at least rebuild that 5.4 but for all the updates you would have to do would cost you a small fortune of course ultimately it's your decision but look up the 5.4 it's a disaster from spark plugs to coil packs to roller rockers cracking manifolds busting as soon as 20k miles and much more

The 5.4 has had problems but still is one of the best ever made. Obviously someone here hates them.

The 5.4L 3V Triton motor is definitely the worst motor Ford has ever designed across the board and was sued for their stupidity. Even Ford mechanics will say the same thing. There is definitely hating this motor here F_O_R for having nothing but issues all the time. If I would of read up on this motor better before I bought my truck I would of said screw this the motor is a piece of crap. Don't get me wrong I love everything about my truck but the P.O.S motor..lol. I'm surprised I got 158k out of the motor. Make no mistake tho i had this and that happen along the way. If its not one thing its another tho and it sucks with a lot of frustration. If I was to ever meet the team that designed this motor I would punch them all in the face. It's ridiculous that even ford mechanics have a hard time diagnosing easy issues. They will tell you that you need to just replace the motor 9 times out of 10. Phasers, VCT's, COP's, Spark plugs (that break even tho it hasn't happened to me but read about it), Injectors, timing chain guides (made out of plastic), lashers, roller rockers, valve spring breaking and valve easily getting bent a hair to cause a rough idle. What a list huh fellas? Come on tho that's basically the whole top end of the motor. At least they could of made them out of something stronger..sheesh Shoot could of used the older 5.0 motor and would of been just fine. Why else you think they replaced the 5.4L with a 5.0L now. If the 5.4L was the best motor ever made they wouldn't of replaced it. Right? So just remember y'all when you get a misfire you have to jump through hoops just to figure it out whats causing the misfire. Forums are always steering you in different directions. Do your reading very carefully and take all the info you obtained and try to narrow it down. I just went through it all recently and now come to find out my misfire and rough idle is my #6 valve.

Yes you can put a 5.0 motor in. I'm a firm believer you can do anything with all the right fabrication. But you can put a 5.0 in. But here is the BUT, it will cost you , probably around an extra 2 grand for the conversion kit. Check this out it's very informative. http://www.city-data.com/forum/automotive/1625696-replacing-5-4-motor-new-5-a-3.html
