04 f150 4.6l swap with 02 4.6l

Asked by Lanman2016 Oct 27, 2016 at 12:45 AM about the 2004 Ford F-150 XLT Ext. Cab 4WD

Question type: General

I have a 04 4.6l f150(winsor) with a hole in a piston
and a 02 explorer 4.6l (winsor) . My question is, will
the explorer engine fit in the f150 with little
changes such as new heads

I don't think so. The 04 f150 has vct (phasers) to automatically adjust timing. The 02 does not. Mixing 04 heads with 02 block timing chains might not lign up due to phasers sticking out further
