Coolant Overflow

Asked by Bigtall4me Mar 03, 2016 at 12:14 AM about the 2002 Chevrolet Malibu FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The car does fine while driving but when I stop the
coolant is filling the plastic jug and overflowing out
onto the ground. The car does start to overheat
when in stop and go or waiting in line at say a drive
thru. I changed the plastic cap on the fluid jug...it
seems loose again. Could it be the cap or should
start looking for a bigger problem?

look for gasses entering the cooling system , intake gasket or head gaskets

Start with the thermostat. It might not be working properly, if not make sure the fans are working properly.3) your radiator might have a bunch of gunk . Radiator flush.
